The Longest Reigns in Recorded History
Sobhuza II of Swaziland reigned about 82 years from 1899 to 1982, though regents governed for much of it, making him the longest verified reign. Louis XIV of France holds the record for a great power at 72 years and 110 days.
Elizabeth II reached 70 years and 214 days, Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand 70 years, and Kangxi of Qing China 61. Ancient sources credit Pepi II of Egypt with 94 years, but scholars treat that figure with caution.
