Temujin, who united the Mongol tribes in 1206 and began the conquests that built the largest contiguous land empire in history, stretching from northern China to Central Asia at his death. His law code, the Yassa, and his relay post roads organized the empire. Millions died, yet the later Pax Mongolica reopened Eurasian exchange.
