Ramses II
Life and reign
Ramses the Great, pharaoh for 66 years, who fought the Hittites to a standstill at Kadesh around 1274 BC and later signed the earliest known surviving peace treaty with them. He built Abu Simbel, the Ramesseum and additions across Egypt, fathered perhaps a hundred children, and outlived many of his heirs.
