Emperor Jimmu
Life and reign
The legendary first emperor, said to descend from the sun goddess Amaterasu and to have founded the throne in 660 BC. Historians treat him as mythic, yet National Foundation Day still marks his accession, and the imperial line he began carries the oldest dynastic claim on earth.
