Henry IV of France
Life and reign
First Bourbon king, a Protestant who converted to Catholicism with the famous remark that Paris was worth a mass. The Edict of Nantes of 1598 granted toleration to Protestants and ended the wars of religion. His roads, canals and care for peasants made him a beloved legend. Assassinated by a fanatic in 1610.
