Louis IX
Life and reign
Canonized within thirty years of his death, the only French king made a saint. He bought the crown of thorns and built the Sainte-Chapelle to house it, reformed justice with the enqueteurs, and died of disease on crusade near Tunis in 1270. His descendants ruled until 1848 in direct and cadet lines.
