Life and reign
Conqueror of Constantinople, breaching the Theodosian walls in May 1453 at the age of 21 with the largest cannon of the age. He styled himself Caesar of Rome, completed the Balkan conquests and codified the Ottoman state. He spoke several languages and collected classical manuscripts.
