Tenth and greatest Ottoman sultan, called the Lawgiver by his own people. He took Belgrade, Rhodes and Hungary, reached the gates of Vienna in 1529, and his fleet dominated the Mediterranean. His patronage raised Sinan mosques, and his reign defined the Ottoman golden age.
