Life and reign
The builder emperor, whose grief for his wife Mumtaz Mahal produced the Taj Mahal, the pinnacle of Mughal architecture. He moved the capital to Delhi and raised the Red Fort and the Jama Masjid. Deposed by his son Aurangzeb, he spent his last years imprisoned viewing the Taj across the river.
