Nero
Life and reign
Last of the Julio-Claudians, remembered for extravagance and tyranny, though the surviving histories were written by hostile senatorial authors. After the great fire of Rome in 64 he blamed the Christians, beginning the first persecution. Faced with revolt and declared a public enemy by the Senate, he took his own life in 68.
